Textural Trio

The initial concept was to explore self identity and belonging by creating three wooden cubes with three different outcomes based on the texture built on them. The base MDF wood represents the “skeleton” of the sculptures, although each cube would enter their final forms having completely different visual textures they would have all  been created using the same base material and measurements.

These images are picked to reflect experience of process art and exploration of texture in relation to the ability to identify self identity and belonging through the different cubes. The first cube was the least easily blended into the background, its white tones made it impossible. The second cube with the coffee grounds also struggles to fit into the natural landscape and the man made brick wall however it could’ve been stained by nature or the organic formation of rust can be perceive which would create a stronger link than the first cube to nature. The final cube with the moss found itself easily disguised when amongst darker greenery, Although when the cube was facing the white side up it would then be revealed as less easily disguised. Amongst the brick wall the cube blends in more, it could perhaps be mistaken as a structure part of the wall that has been covered in moss.
