Small Exhibit Cabinet
2022
"Femininity and Form" Exhibition at Leeds Arts University, Leeds
November 24 - November 30 2022

'Femininity and Form' is a small exhibit curated by two artists, Bethia Howard and myself; Loane Bobillier. My side of the cabinet included small works I was working on including mirror cubes, a cement cube, a wooden cube, a textured cube and a collection of spheres which is a small example of an installation piece that was in the making. Bethia Howard displays a collection of six bronze figures amongst a red draped fabric. Through the cabinet I allowed the viewers to step into my creative mindset at the time.

The writings on the display reads:

Subtle Reflection

Loane Bobillier

Taking inspiration from Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Narcissus Garden’ exhibited at the 2018-2019 Shape Shifters exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, the spheres hold an ambiguous quality as they appear to be metal casted objects however that is only due to the pewter glaze on top of terracotta clay. There is an untouchable earthy core representing the disconnect we currently have with natural resources, covering landscapes with man made buildings and replacing forests to build cities. Some spheres appear more shiny than others where your reflection may start to stare back at you, forcing you to face your own existence. Each sphere is unique through hand crafted techniques, they are all individually different just like us.

The Cube Continues

Loane Bobillier

A clear continuous form that appears in my practice is the shape of a cube which I explore using different multi medium approaches. A few of those approaches are displayed in this cabinet such as the cement cube, the mirror cubes and the wooden textured cube. To me, the cube is a way to explore different methods of creating, playing with textures and materials that would not be directly linked to a cube.
