Amongst The Crowd (2022)

25.5cm x 25.5cm

The acrylic on canvas painting was inspired by the shadows cast amongst post it notes overlapping on a window. The change of tone when the post it notes overlap create an interesting pattern which when painted creates an ambiguous image of where the original squares are. This overlapping in itself creates new shapes to appear even though there are only the squares of the post it notes physically available.

Ocean Ripple (2022)

25.5cm x 25.5cm

The acrylic on canvas painting with a wooden painted block was inspired by the colours of the parting barbed wire sea under the name of NTABAMANZI by Lungiswa Gqunta. I created an acrylic on canvas painting with wood relief. This was to distort the idea of how we perceive the objects around us, creating almost an illusion to the depth of the painting.

Maman au Soleil (2022)

50cm x 40cm

The acrylic on canvas painting represents a figure sunbathing amongst a tiled background reflecting tones that are related to summer and the idea of laying down by a pool. The striking contrast of the figures pareo allows a strong focal point and allows the figure to stand out against the already crowded background. This textural piece is successful in portraying a calming essence which works well with the theme of Summer

Not So Round (2022)

30cm x 30cm

The acrylic on canvas painting represents a sphere inside a square canvas is a reflection of a bronze sphere sculpture inside a perfectly fitting acrylic box. The piece looks at the restricting nature of canvas paintings, unlike sculptures where there are no borders for creating, a canvas will always restrict an artists work to the limitation of the canvas space.

Sea Squares (2022)

60cm x 110cm

The acrylic on canvas painting confronts the viewer to an overwhelming feeling through the multiplication of the square. There is a movement created through the change of strength of opacity as each square differentiates in density.

Metal Structure in Paint (2021)

40cm x 50cm

The acrylic on canvas painting explores shape within shape, the creation of the external shapes through the inner shapes. Similar to the external world, there are outer finished objects and forms created by inner smaller workings of shape such as a coffee table; its whole is created using smaller wholes which themselves are created using smaller parts.

Purpose (2021)

40cm x 40cm

These geometric triptych acrylic on canvas paintings explore the contrasts of a free line drawing and rigid geometric structures.

Unchanged Movement (2021)

42cm x 59cm

The acrylic on paper painting is a reflection on movement and the inevitable cause of our actions. The black paint is unforgiving and forever present through its dark tone. This piece is a reminder to how permanent our actions are and to be careful with one another.

Where Next (2021)

120cm x 200cm

This performative wall piece using acrylic paint, canvas and wood chippings. The lines and mark making as a way to represent life’s transience.

Filthy Lemon (2021)

21cm x 30cm

The oil on stretched canvas explores growth through the striking and vibrant representation of a decaying lemon. This piece is to confront the viewer with the vision of life and death, the beauty that death comes as it welcomes regrowth and rebirth.

Sunbathing on the Roof (2020)

150cm x 190cm

The acrylic on canvas painting sets a pleasing environment in its cool tones, although this would appear to be colder tones the figures encompass a warmth through their flamboyant figures and the laid back allure they hold. The stare is friendly and inviting, as though they are saying "come, come join us under the rays of the summer sky."

Blue Woman In Front of Tiles (2020)

190cm x 150cm

The acrylic on canvas painting explores a voluptuous figure, one of the first in its style that Loane created. The woman is in cool tones, contrasting the extremely warm background however through combining the warmth onto the figure it allows unity between the figure and the background. Using gold paint on both the figure and the background brings forward the importance of the woman figure, she is seen as so important that her body is covered in gold.

In a Market (2020)

50cm x 70cm

The acrylic on canvas painting's background was inspired by the Bangkok markets. The figures appear barely there, shadows passing by and combining themselves with the street markets. As a tourist attraction, Bangkok citizens would see many tourists going in and out of the market, passing by to purchase goods and never come back again.

Halo (2020)

50cm x 40cm

The acrylic on canvas painting looks at a figure in front of a black background, an unusual way of working compared to the more colourful paintings in Loane's practice. Although the background is dark it helps bring out the cheerful and bright character. The gold around the figures head displays golden hair however it also appears like a halo further bringing out the soft nature of the woman.

Surrender (2020)

50cm x 40cm

The acrylic on canvas painting is a soft nude painting of a woman sitting on the ground. The background is purple to compliment the browns of her skin tone, a beautiful painting exploring the raw nature of nudity. The beauty of size and the way that our body folds to create a soft shape.

Sea of Urchins (2019)

200cm x 100cm

A mixed media project including plaster, newspaper, acrylic paint, crackle paint and texture paint in order to create delicate emerging sea urchins from the background. Originally a floor protector used to create other plaster sculptures, the unexpected creation of this piece makes it even more exciting. Texture and light tones are used to explore the ethereal quality of death portrayed in the sea urchin skeletons where repetition and beauty of the soft pale tones are confronted with the darker concept of death.
