Movement In Compromise
2022
"Open Mind" Exhibition at Open Gallery, Halifax
August 18 - September 03 2022

'Movement In Compromise' 2021 started as an exploration of movement inspired by the boldness of black paint brush marks on a blank canvas. After exploring different mark makings 'Movement In Compromise' started to form itself as a conversation through bringing movement; something that happens once and can only be captured through a video or camera, bringing the 2D experience of mark making and the 3D exploration of bringing the mark makings into a visual and physical experience. The sculpture was created using scrap pieces of metal making the final sculpture  unpredictable.

In the short "Open Mind" 2022 exhibition 'Movement In Compromise' explores the connection between the external world and how one views the world. The 60cm x 40cm steel sculpture explores movement through the curving of the steel sheets and a reflection of decay and death is presented through the burned and melted metal creating a rust like appearance. As you walk around the sculpture, different forms can be perceived allowing an awareness of oneself to the sculpture. This ties to the exhibition title of 'Open Mind' as one individual walking around the sculpture interprets the piece in a different way than another viewer through ones physical position. One must keep an open mind as to where the flow of the movement goes. Although steel metal is a robust and heavy material, the flow of the curved sculpture allows an ethereal and delicate quality to take piece.
