WE GO FROM BOX TO BOX

"The geometric enthusiasm of the medal refers to my artistic practice where I have been utilising the geometric shape of a cube to experiment with new techniques of creating and pushing my artistic concepts forward. As a medal is often seen as round or oval I wanted to use my current artistic practice where I push the concept of what we perceive as space, shape, time and weight. Instead of giving the medal its classic oval appearance I made it into multiple overlapping squares to play with layering and talk about the concept of perception as depending on how you view the medal the squares create different shapes from the side angle, front and back.  The words “WE GO FROM BOX TO BOX TO BOX” can be seen on the back of the medal, this is to play with the concept that as a society we tend to ignore spending time looking at the importance of nature, creating memories in the outdoors and valuing ourselves over money. The concept of going into a box to another presents houses, cars, buildings as the boxes. We go from our house into a car to go into a building and then back to our house through the same box to box concept. The medal is used as a reminder to take the time to live and enjoy the little things in life outside of our usual routine set out by society, spending time outside of the societies social constructs that are forced upon us through commercialisation. My medal is a unity of art and communication, using an eye-catching geometric pattern to talk about the societal values we uphold." - Loane Bobillier
